Is it practical to start studying for a degree in acupuncture or massage therapy at the age of 40 years?
I am forty years old (41 in July) and live in a town outside New York. I am currently working in public service and city government office in a terribly boring / Location Supervisor Administrative Records of the Department in the Office of Personnel Services. My salary is a joke of $ 48K, but I have job security, a pension plan 401K, 457 plan, no vision, Dental, and subsidized health insurance from my payckeck. I have a BBA for the industrial sector, but not others Pyschology qualifications or training and I feel like a total loser! I'm in a failed marriage, but because the rent is astronomical I'm still living with her and another roommate and desperately I need to to live a different life better. I would like a new career with excellent potential and money have been thinking of either a massage or acupuncture. However, I am a loner and have limited extreme socialize with others. I have fear of the cost and time required for these races! Should I stick where I am and wait for retirement-HELP!
If you have serious difficulty socializing with others, then acupuncture and massage therapy can be a bad career choice. In professions that will be needed to build and maintain personal relationships you. You are never too old to pursue their dreams. Just make sure that this is something that you really want to do. I do not know about acupuncture, but the state of New York has strict requirements for the practice of massage therapy. I think NY 1000 hours of training required and national certification. A massage therapy program may take more than a year to complete. Good luck with whatever path you choose.
